Crescent Wind, a $246 million investment in Michigan’s clean energy infrastructure, started generating renewable electricity for homes and businesses in early 2021. The 166-megawatt project joins the fleet of wind farms we own and operate. Combined, our four wind energy farms can produce enough clean, renewable energy for nearly 250,000 households.
Background
Located in Hillsdale County, Crescent Wind features 60 turbines with a capacity to power about 64,000 residents.
Invenergy, a leading global developer and operator of sustainable energy solutions based in Chicago, developed and built the wind farm. Consumers Energy took ownership and operations of the facility upon its completion.
A team of 11 highly trained full-time employees will operate the electric generation facility from a newly established operations building in Jonesville, Mich. The project created hundreds of jobs during construction.
Benefits
Protecting the environment
Crescent Wind is a key component in our Clean Energy Plan, a blueprint to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by eliminating coal and dramatically increasing renewable energy fuel sources.
Supporting the local economy
The wind farm increases the community’s overall tax base to help
fund education and critical basic services, and provides an ongoing
revenue source for participating landowners, including many in the agricultural community.
